There are three main types of anesthesia administered by Kentucky Anesthesia Group:

  • General anesthesia | uses a combination of medications administered intravenously and gases administered through a face mask or breathing tube.  Vital signs are monitored continuously throughout general anesthesia.
  • Regional anesthesia | blocks pain to a large part or region of the body.  Regional anesthesia can include spinal, epidural and peripheral nerve blocks.  Medication is injected near a cluster of nerves to numb only the area of the body that requires surgery.
  • Local anesthesia | provides numbness to a very limited part of the body.  One of our anesthesiologists will only be present for this anesthesia if patient’s physical condition warrants close monitoring.

Kentucky Anesthesia Group is dedicated to providing perioperative care to patients before, during and after surgery:

  • Before surgery | Kentucky Anesthesia Group reviews each patient’s medical history, discusses the plan for anesthesia and answers any questions the patient might have.  We may also initiate regional nerve blocks and catheters to aid with pain control after surgery.
  • During surgery | because of our training, Kentucky Anesthesia Group anesthesiologists have experience with complex cases, including difficult airways and patients with multiple allergies.
  • After surgery | patients will receive a multi-modal approach to pain control with different oral and intravenous medications.
